Finding cheap apartments for rent in Poland is a growing problem for students
Traditionally, as every year, the academic year in Poland begins in October, but this year students started looking for apartments for rent in mid-July. Finding a cheaper apartment this year is a real challenge, because there are fewer and fewer of them on the market. People with more financial resources will not have such a problem. Unfortunately, the demand is so huge that apartment owners can choose from among potential candidates interested in renting their apartment.
Universities also indicate that this year they recorded higher interest in student housing than usual. There is also a greater interest in rooms in private flats specially designed for students. Another problem is the low number of attractive offers for students in terms of price, standard and location of the flat.
What are the reasons for this?
Currently, rising inflation has caused an increase in rental prices, in addition to rising costs of electricity and heating. The outbreak of the war in Ukraine resulted in an influx of immigrants from the east, these in turn also have to live somewhere, which in turn translated into very poor availability of apartments available for rent on the Polish real estate market.
In the current situation, landlords are also much more careful than usual, so if you are looking for a flat to rent, it is good to prepare for it. If you have already rented an apartment, think about presenting the history of the lease, references from the previous owner of the apartment. If you are coming to Poland for professional purposes, it is also worth showing the employment contract so that the owner is sure that there will be no problems with paying for the apartment, thus increasing your chance of finding a suitable apartment for rent in Poland. There are 40 percent less active offers of apartments for rent than a year ago, so it is worth presenting yourself well to the owners.
In this situation, it is worth considering cooperation with a real estate agency that will help you find the right apartment and guide you through the entire rental process and, if necessary, also conduct negotiations with the owner of the apartment.
